Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Team Lead to manage our accounting operations and support our financial integrity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general ledger management, financial reporting, and team leadership. Proficiency in SAP and MS Excel is preferred, alongside robust knowledge of accounting principles and a proactive approach to process improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage general ledger accounting activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, ensuring adherence to internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules for accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide variance analysis and actionable insights to senior management for informed decision-making.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments while monitoring receivables and managing collections to improve cash flow.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and implement best practices to streamline accounting functions and improve accuracy.
  • Develop and refine SAP and MS Excel-based models to support financial analysis and reporting.
  • Lead and develop a small team of accounting professionals by fostering an inclusive environment, setting goals, conducting performance reviews, and supporting professional growth.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax requirements, and company policies (UK GAAP or IFRS), and support external audits by preparing documentation and liaising with auditors.
  • Work closely with finance, operations, and other departments to align accounting functions with business objectives.
  • Support strategic planning and budgeting by providing relevant financial data and insights.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. Professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CA, CIMA) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or team lead role.
  • Proficiency in SAP and advanced MS Excel skills, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and financial modelling.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards (UK GAAP or IFRS) and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong English communication skills (both spoken and written).

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in a similar industry or sector.
  • Familiarity with Power BI or other data visualisation tools is advantageous.
  • Experience in supporting internal or external audits.
